Cactus : Is it Courteous to Send Cactus ?

Can you send cactus for someone on his special days ? Cactus have a sharp shape, often covered with “needles “ and their appearance are mostly harsh; in other words, cactus do not express a friendly message. No one sends a plant full with needles on Valentine day, I guess :). Most people prefer to send flowers or other indoor plants instead.

However, in today’s plant nurseries, lots of indoor plants from the cactus andgenus have been found, developed, grown and sold as beautiful “friendly” plants, attractive for both indoor and outdoor plants. We could no longer find the hostile look of a cactus. Some of those potted cactus have a funny, cute shapes, needless to say that they are as well harmful: needle-less.

Some other kinds of cactus even have bright and warm appearance that they top the favorite indoor plants. Most of this type are cactus with bright flowers, which can brighten both your table and your heart.

One sample is of these kinds is Schlumbergera or Zygocactus which is famous as Christmas cactus because its delightful flowers look like Christmas decoration on a Christmas tree.

So in my opinion, sending cactus as a gift is just fine. As long as you choose the proper cactus, you can send it as a gift even for Valentine or Mother Day. Here are some other guidelines to send cactus :

· Choose the “harmless” kind, i.e. cactus with no needles, especially when the receiver has kids around.

· Cactus for cactus lover : There are kinds of rare genus of cactus which is hunted by cactus lovers. They are available in many stores, including online store. If you wish to send a special gift to a cactus lover, than you would rather consider to kind of cactus. Rare cactus are exclusive, prestigious and precious.

· Cactus for beginner / common : Cactus is not a difficult plant, but still it needs a special care. Better choose cactus that can last long with easy care, like Optuntia. Choosing some popular kinds sometimes helps, as their caring tips are also popular.

· Do not choose a “fragile” type, such frail cactus can easily get fractured on delivery. If you however do ( because you deadly fall in love with the cute shapes), be sure to have a proper packaging.

· If you decide to buy the cactus online, then choose a professional cactus nursery or cactus grower as he should be experienced in cactus shipment treating. Find one with nearest location from the cactus receiver.

· If possible, find the care guidelines of your cactus. There are lots of cactus books available on the online book shops. You can either find the cactus care tips from the internet. Add this information as a note on the card sent along with the cactus. Write it in a nice or sweet or funny way, avoid commands. :)

And then…. your cactus will be on its way to become a nice friendly gift.
